Staying Vigilant Against Check Fraud Scams

In light of the recent surge in financial scams targeting businesses, we wanted to bring your attention to a particular risk: Check Fraud. Check fraud, including check washing and counterfeit checks, is on the rise. To keep your business safe, we highly recommend staying vigilant and taking proactive steps to safeguard your financial transactions.

Check Washing scams involve altering and cashing checks that are stolen from mailboxes. Criminals take advantage of unsecured mailboxes and exploit vulnerabilities in the postal system to gain access to checks, which they can then manipulate for their own benefit.

Staying Vigilant
To protect your business from check fraud scams, we recommend the following proactive measures:

  1. Positive Pay with Payee Match: Implement this powerful tool to verify and match checks against your issued checks, ensuring that only authorized payments are processed. We believe this is an extremely powerful tool to prevent both internal and external fraud.
  2. Consider ACH Payments: When possible, consider using ACH payments as a more secure alternative to writing checks. ACH payments offer enhanced security and traceability.
  3. Secure Mailing: Be cautious when sending checks. It’s essential to mail them from inside secure postal facilities rather than using mail drop boxes. We recently heard about an incident where a mailman had his master key stolen, leading to widespread theft of business mail. Using secure facilities reduces this risk.
  4. Verify Account Activity: Access your online account information at least twice daily to verify activity. Fraudulent transactions are time-critical, so the sooner you catch any issues, the better.

By implementing these precautions, you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to check fraud and enhance the security of your financial transactions.

If you have any questions or require further assistance regarding these security measures, please do not hesitate to contact your Susser Banker or a Treasury Management Support team member at (817) 987-2150. We are here to support you in protecting your business from financial crimes.

Susser Bank Team Volunteer Day

We had the privilege of joining forces with Trinity Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a local family. Our team was grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community, and we take great pride in supporting such a noble organization that shares our values. Knowing that we helped provide a home for a family in need was truly an unforgettable experience.

Community Support at Central Texas Food Bank

Our Austin and Round Rock teams had an amazing evening of service at the Central Texas Food Bank. Together, we packed nearly 9,800 meals for those in need. Our team wore orange bandanas to help raise awareness for Hunger Action Month. We are incredibly proud to have a group of individuals devoted to serving the needs of our community.

Garland Branch Gives Back to the Community

In preparation for back to school, our Garland branch collected school supply donations that will be used throughout classrooms at a local elementary school. They also took the opportunity to send handwritten words of encouragement to all the teachers. We are grateful for our clients and team members who are intentional about fostering a brighter future for our community by supporting education and making a difference in the lives of young learners and their outstanding educators.

Susser Bank Named One of the Fastest-Growing Banks in DFW

According to the Dallas Business Journal’s DFW Bank Snapshot, Susser Bank has emerged as one of the fastest-growing banks in DFW. Over the past five years, our assets and deposits have grown significantly, with assets nearly tripling to almost $2 billion, and deposits more than tripling to $1.7 billion – while simultaneously attracting exceptional talent and expanding our footprint to include every major Texas market.

Welcome back to the DFW Bank Snapshot, a weekly series that closely examines financial institutions headquartered in Dallas-Fort Worth.

This week, we’re looking at Susser Bank.

The Dallas-based bank started in 1959 as an institution to serve Affiliated Food Stores. Today, it’s one of the region’s fastest-growing banks. Assets have almost tripled over the past five years to almost $2 billion, while deposits have more than tripled to $1.7 billion.

Susser’s loan book, of which more than half is concentrated in commercial real estate, has more than doubled to $1.4 billion over the past five years.

In 2018, Susser Bank Holdings LLC purchased control of what was then called Affiliated Bank. Under the Susser family’s control, the bank hired employees, expanded to new Texas markets, upgraded its technology platform and also shifted its focus from home building to doing more business with the commercial and industrial and commercial real estate fields.

Affiliated Bank rebranded to Susser Bank in 2021, and businessman Sam L. Susser took over as CEO of his eponymous bank later that year. Susser Bank currently has nine branches, including seven in DFW. The bank has opened branches in Houston, Round Rock and San Antonio, with plans to open a branch in Austin this year.
